Medwish International Provides Medical Supplies to Countries in Need

Seana Rutherford works as a certified nurse practitioner specializing in family practice at Premier Physicians in Fairview Park, Ohio. Recently, Seana Rutherford received the opportunity to help provide healthcare and supplies to those in need as a volunteer with Medwish International

Nonprofit Medwish International was created in 1993 to collect unused medical supplies in the United States and redistribute them to developing countries in need. Since its inception, Medwish has repurposed over 3.5 million pounds of medical supplies from nearly 100 hospitals. The organization also sorts the incoming medical supply donations, permitting customization of orders based upon recipient needs.

Medwish partners with other nonprofits committed to providing international health care to developing countries. It provides a range of shipment options for eligible recipients, from small, hand-carried shipments comprised of a single box, to larger, overseas freight shipments used to supply an entire facility’s medical needs.

Volunteers with Medwish may help sort through and package medical supplies for distribution around the world. Volunteers may also enlist in the Medwish International Medical Brigade and travel personally to a developing country to help distribute supplies and provide healthcare at local clinics. Seana Rutherford joined this effort as part of Medwish’s 2016 Medical Brigade to Haiti.
