An Overview of ABWM Foundation Activities

Seana Rutherford is a certified nurse practitioner with Premier Physicians in Fairview Park, Ohio. She studied nursing at the University of Akron as an undergraduate and received her master of nursing with an emphasis on family practice from Ursuline College. In addition to her role as a primary care provider, Seana Rutherford engages with professional organizations such as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Board of Wound Management.

The American Board of Wound Management (ABWM) is a national leader in credentialing medical professionals in various disciplines of wound management, including both acute and chronic wound care. The organization’s three certification programs are the Certified Wound Care Associate (CWCA), the Certified Wound Specialist (CWS), and the Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP). The organization manages a number of additional services, including the American Board of Wound Management Foundation.

The ABWM Foundation functions as a separate entity from ABWM, operating with a goal of improving medical services in areas of wound management, primarily by promoting ABWM certification programs. The foundation works closely with acute and chronic wound care providers, as well as educators and researchers, with the goal of optimizing patient care. All funds generated through the ABWM Foundation are returned to ABWM and used for non-biased purposes, such as increasing pass rates in all three certification programs and supporting individuals in their educational pursuits through various scholarship offerings. More information about the ABWM Foundation, as well as other ABWM services, can be found at www.abwmfoundation.org.
